EU Collections Competencies Project

Testing a European Competency Framework for VET in Collections Management

WP1: Adaptation and Consolidation

The role of WP1 is to lead the adaptation and consolidation of the NHM competency framework, ensuring it is clear and jargon-free. Using this consolidated set of competencies, WP1 will deliver a multi-language European set of competencies for collections management staff. It will encourage its adoption both within the natural history community and beyond, thus establishing the competency set as the main means of defining collections management posts in the sector.

Key objectives:

  • Ensure that NHM framework is clear and jargon-free, providing glossary where necessary
  • Translate and adapt the framework to the needs to the European museum partners
  • Evaluate the translated competency set in the context of local and national laws, culture and governance
  • Define all collections-based job roles using the competency set
  • Develop competency profiles for individual staff members
